Nephew Attacks Teacher with Acid in Punjab Classroom, Two Children Injured

Chandigarh, April 18

A primary school teacher suffered burn injuries after her nephew allegedly threw acid on her while she was teaching a UKG class in Punjab’s Batala district on Friday. The accused, identified as Tejbir Singh, has been arrested. Two young students present in the classroom also sustained minor injuries in the incident.

According to police, the attack took place within the jurisdiction of Ghuman police station in Mehmadpur village. The victim was conducting a class when the accused entered the classroom and threw acid on her. Some of the acid also splashed onto a six-year-old boy and a four-year-old girl who were seated nearby.

Deputy Superintendent of Police Harish Behal said police acted promptly after receiving information about the incident. He confirmed that the injured teacher is undergoing treatment at the civil hospital in Batala.

Police said the motive behind the attack is not yet known and is being investigated. A case has been registered under relevant provisions, and further inquiry is underway.

The incident has raised concerns about school safety, with authorities expected to review security measures as the investigation progresses.
