Youth Congress promises 48-hour action on civic issues, plans hospital task force and monitoring of development works in Dharamshala

Dharamshala , August 21

The Himachal Pradesh Youth Congress has announced the launch of its ‘Mera Shehar, Mera Haq’ and ‘Better City’ campaigns in Dharamshala, with party spokesperson and general secretary Vitthal Bhardwaj claiming that civic issues will be taken up with authorities for resolution within 48 hours.

Addressing a press conference, Bhardwaj said the Indian National Youth Congress and Himachal Pradesh Youth Congress launched the campaign across the country from August 15. The initiative aims to improve cleanliness and public facilities in cities and villages while ensuring proper maintenance of existing development projects.

He said the campaign has already started in several parts of Himachal Pradesh, including Shimla, Kullu and Mandi. In Dharamshala, Youth Congress workers will visit all 17 Municipal Corporation wards to identify and document residents’ problems.

He said issues related to streetlights, drainage, roads, waterlogging, lanes and other civic amenities will be taken up with the concerned departments.

Bhardwaj said committees would be formed at the district, block and urban local body levels. Workers would visit households, record grievances and submit them to the concerned officials. He claimed a 48-hour timeframe would be set for resolving complaints, failing which the organization would hold protests outside the offices concerned.

Healthcare was another major issue raised during the press conference. Bhardwaj said Dr Rajendra Prasad Government Medical College, Tanda, serves a large population in Kangra and surrounding areas, but poor and needy patients often face difficulties in accessing treatment, medicines, blood and other facilities.

He said the Youth Congress was preparing to establish a special task force at Tanda Medical College and hospitals in Dharamshala and Kangra. Two Youth Congress volunteers would remain present at the hospitals daily to help patients and their families raise their concerns with authorities.

Bhardwaj also questioned the maintenance of development projects, saying crores of rupees are spent on infrastructure, but inadequate upkeep often causes projects to deteriorate, leading to additional expenditure on rebuilding them.

Under the ‘Better City’ campaign, he said, the Youth Congress would monitor both development works and their maintenance.

Referring to the Dharamshala Smart City project, Bhardwaj said maintaining and protecting the infrastructure created under the project was the responsibility of both the government and citizens. He appealed to residents and the media to support the initiative.

The Youth Congress also highlighted the need to ensure the safety of workers involved in sanitation and sewerage operations. It said it would run awareness campaigns against practices that force people to enter sewer lines at the risk of their lives.

Residents will also be able to submit their complaints through the IYC app, the organization said.
