A large number of devotees thronged gurdwaras across Himachal Pradesh on Wednesday to celebrate ‘Gurpurab’, the birth anniversary of Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji, the founder of Sikhism and the first Sikh Guru.
In Shimla, the state capital, all gurdwaras were adorned with flowers and lights to mark the sacred occasion. The Gurudwara Singh Sabha, Shimla, hosted a series of devotional programmes, featuring Raagi Jathas (religious hymn groups) who performed kirtan and delivered spiritual messages inspired by Guru Nanak’s teachings. Speaking to reporters, Jaswinder Singh, President of Gurudwara Singh Sabha Shimla, said Guru Nanak Dev Ji was “not only the founder of Sikhism but one of history’s most influential spiritual leaders.” He added that Guru Nanak’s philosophy, rooted in equality, compassion, humility, and selfless service, continues to inspire millions around the world.
“Guru Nanak Dev Ji taught that humanity must rise above caste, creed and religion to live in harmony,” Jaswinder Singh said. “His message of peace and unity remains timeless and universal.”
