Kangra district is set to elect new Pradhans, Deputy Pradhans, and ward members in 282 panchayats on Thursday, following the second phase of Panchayati Raj elections. More than four lakh voters across the district are expected to participate in the democratic exercise to choose their rural representatives.
Along with the election of Pradhans and Deputy Pradhans, 1,616 ward members will also be selected. To ensure the smooth conduct of the elections, nearly 10,000 government employees have been deployed across the district.
In Chaitdu Panchayat, residents expressed hope that the newly elected representatives would bring positive changes and address long-pending issues, especially the water shortage problem faced by the village for years.
After casting his vote, 83-year-old Puran Chand said he expected development to take place in the panchayat. He said the village has been struggling with water scarcity for a long time and hoped the new leadership would resolve the issue.
Another resident, Gambhir Singh, said the elected Pradhan and Deputy Pradhan should focus on development work and basic public issues. He added that the village’s water problem remains a major concern, and people are looking towards the new panchayat for a permanent solution.
