Shimla, August 17
Himachal Pradesh BJP president Dr Rajeev Bindal has launched a sharp attack on the state government, questioning its handling of recruitment, taxes and development.
Speaking to the media at the BJP headquarters in Shimla, Bindal hit back at Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu over his remarks on paper leaks.
“If papers were not conducted, how could they have been leaked?” Bindal said, accusing the government of failing to conduct recruitment examinations and fulfil its promise of providing jobs.
Bindal was speaking after chairing a meeting of the BJP’s 25 organisational cells at Deepkamal, where preparations for the 2027 Himachal Pradesh Assembly elections were also discussed.
He also criticised the state government over an affidavit submitted in the high court concerning government jobs. Bindal claimed that around one lakh government posts were vacant and alleged that the government had failed to deliver on its employment promises.
The BJP leader also accused the government of increasing the financial burden on people through taxes and levies. He claimed that higher VAT and cess on petrol and diesel had resulted in around Rs 6,000 crore being collected from the public.
Bindal further alleged that stamp duty had been increased by 500 per cent, adding to the financial burden on households.
He criticised the government over the Himachal Road Transport Corporation, claiming that hundreds of routes had been discontinued while fares had been increased.
Criticising the Congress, Bindal also questioned the government’s promise of providing free electricity. He said instead of cheaper power, consumers were facing additional VAT and cess, making electricity bills increasingly difficult for poorer households to pay.
The BJP president accused the state government of failing to maintain the pace of development, saying several projects were being carried out with support from the central government.
He claimed that Himachal Pradesh had accumulated debt of around Rs 45,000 crore and was borrowing at a rate of about Rs 12,000 crore a year. He predicted that the state’s debt could reach Rs 60,000 crore before the present government leaves office.
Bindal also targeted Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, criticising him over remarks relating to Vande Mataram and the prime minister.
“Those who can insult Vande Mataram, what else can be expected from Rahul Gandhi?” Bindal said.
He also criticised the language allegedly used by Gandhi against Prime Minister Narendra Modi, saying the word condemnation was not strong enough to describe it.
Bindal further said Gandhi should not speak on education after making such remarks.
