At the Kangra Art Museum in Dharamshala, a quiet transformation is underway that promises to enrich the experience of every visitor stepping through its doors. Known for its rich collection of regional history and art, the museum is now expanding its horizons with new spaces and upgraded facilities.

Inside the premises, a new gallery is taking shape, carefully designed to house additional historical artefacts that will soon be open for public viewing. Alongside this, work on the ground floor is moving ahead at a fast pace, with preparations nearly complete to showcase a fresh set of exhibits that reflect the region’s cultural depth and heritage.

Visitor numbers tell their own story of growing interest. Since January this year alone, more than 8,000 tourists have already explored the museum. This includes 242 international visitors, while the majority have been domestic tourists from across India. The steady rise in footfall highlights the museum’s increasing appeal as a cultural destination.

Looking back at last year’s figures, the museum welcomed over 21,500 visitors, including more than 19,000 Indian tourists, over 1,100 foreign visitors, and over a thousand children, reflecting its popularity among both families and international travellers.

Outside the main building, visitor comfort is also being enhanced. A new cafeteria has been completed and is expected to open soon, offering tourists a place to relax during their visit.

With infrastructure upgrades nearing completion and new exhibits expected to be unveiled soon—possibly after May 18—the museum is preparing for a new chapter. For visitors, it promises not just a glimpse into the past but a richer, more engaging cultural experience in the months ahead.
