Haryana’s Special Task Force (STF) has successfully brought alleged gangster Venkat Garg back to India from Georgia in a coordinated international operation involving multiple Indian agencies and diplomatic missions.

According to officials, Venkat Garg, a resident of Narayangarh in Haryana’s Ambala district, is accused of heading a 53-member criminal gang allegedly involved in murder, attempted murder, extortion, organised crime, illegal arms activities and firing incidents across Ambala, Yamunanagar, Kurukshetra, Panchkula and Chandigarh.

Police described Garg as a proclaimed offender and a habitual criminal. Authorities stated that 34 criminal cases have been registered against him in Haryana and Chandigarh.

Officials said Garg had fled India through Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport in 2024 and had been residing in Georgia since then. Even after leaving the country, he allegedly continued to operate his criminal network through gang associates.

Authorities said that after his escape from India, 23 criminal cases were registered against him. In addition, 11 more cases linked to murder, attempted murder, extortion, organised crime and violations of the Arms Act were allegedly connected to the gang’s activities during his stay abroad.

Among the major crimes attributed to the gang is the murder of BSP leader Harvilas in Narayangarh, Ambala district. Police also linked the group to multiple extortion-related firing incidents in Ambala and Yamunanagar districts.

The STF said the operation was made possible through coordinated efforts involving India’s Ministry of External Affairs, the National Central Bureau in New Delhi, the Indian Embassy in Georgia and the Indian Embassy in Kazakhstan.
