CBI files closure report in teacher Manisha death case

 The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has completed its investigation into the death of teacher Manisha and filed a closure report before the Special Judicial Magistrate, CBI Court, in Panchkula on Friday.

The CBI informed complainant Sanjay Swami about the completion of the investigation and submission of the final report through a letter dated August 10, 2026.

Manisha had gone missing from her home on August 11, 2025. Her body was recovered near a canal in Singhani village on August 13, following which police registered an FIR for murder at Lohari police station in Bhiwani.

The case later became controversial after two post-mortems were conducted on August 18 and 19, following which the police termed the death a suicide. The family raised objections to the findings and demanded a fresh investigation.

Amid growing protests, the Haryana government announced on August 20 that the case would be handed over to the CBI. The case was formally transferred to the agency on August 26, 2025, and a third post-mortem was conducted.

The CBI subsequently began its investigation, visiting the village and questioning people connected with the case. On October 7, the CBI team visited Manisha’s house and questioned her family members.

With no major breakthrough emerging for several months, a village panchayat was held on January 31, 2026. Manisha’s father, Sanjay Swami, later met CBI officials in Delhi on July 14 to seek an update on the investigation.

On July 26, it emerged that the CBI was expected to submit its status report before the court on August 14. On August 13, a tribute meeting was organised in Dhani Lakshman village on the eve of Manisha’s first death anniversary.

With the CBI now submitted its closure report, the focus has shifted to the court’s consideration of the report. The court will determine the next legal course of action in the case.

According to CBI Special Crime-II, New Delhi, the investigation into case RC0502025S0010 and FIR No. 135/2025, registered at Lohari police station in Bhiwani, has been completed. The CBI submitted its final report before the court under Section 193 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS). The court will examine the report and decide the further course of action in accordance with law.
