Panchkula, August 13
Panchkula Police have arrested a 40-year-old man from Tehri Garhwal, Uttarakhand, for allegedly stealing six gold bangles from a house in Sector 4. Police recovered three of the stolen bangles and a gold bar made by melting the remaining three. The recovered gold is valued at around ₹10 lakh, while the car allegedly used in the crime was also seized.
The accused, identified as Rajesh Kumar alias Rinku, a resident of Kaithal, allegedly entered the house posing as a friend of the complainant’s son, who lives in Australia. According to police, he used the pretext of viewing gold bangle designs for the son’s wedding and asked the woman to show him six bangles.
When the woman went to the kitchen, the accused allegedly stole the bangles from a cupboard and storeroom before fleeing.
The woman filed a complaint on August 6, following which a case was registered at Sector 5 police station under Sections 305 and 318(4) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
During the investigation, Crime Branch-1 arrested Rajesh Kumar alias Rinku in Tehri Garhwal on August 10 following a tip-off. Police also seized the Verna car allegedly used in the crime.
During police remand, the accused allegedly helped recover three stolen gold bangles and a gold bar made by melting the other three. Police said four previous cases involving theft and fraud have been registered against him. He was subsequently produced before a court and sent to judicial custody.
Panchkula Police have urged residents not to trust unknown visitors without verification. People have been advised to confirm the identity and details of anyone claiming to be a relative, acquaintance or friend of a family member living abroad before allowing them into their homes.
