Driver’s Quick Action Saves Schoolchildren After Haryana Roadways Bus Brake Failure

Pinjore, July 8

A major accident was narrowly averted after a Haryana Roadways bus travelling from Dakhrog village towards Pinjore-Kalka suffered brake failure due to a leak in its pressure pipe. The bus was carrying mostly schoolchildren when the incident occurred.

According to officials and residents, the bus driver acted swiftly, bringing the vehicle to a halt by placing stones beneath it, preventing what could have been a serious accident on the hilly route.

Villagers, including Achhar Kumar, Numberdar, Pawan Kumar, Manmohan, and Bharatiya Kisan Sangh Youth Chief Navit Kumar, said the area has steep hill roads, and only fully roadworthy, technically safe buses should be deployed. They said the driver’s presence of mind prevented a potentially serious tragedy involving schoolchildren.

Residents also pointed out that this was not the first such incident on the route. They said a similar incident had occurred last year, while another accident in the past saw a bus overturn, leaving several children injured. Such incidents, they added, have created fear among children and their families.

The villagers urged the Transport Department to conduct regular technical inspections of buses operating on hilly routes and to avoid deploying old or mechanically unfit vehicles on such roads.

Duty clerk Rohtash said the problem was caused by a leak in the bus’s pressure pipe. He added that all schoolchildren and other passengers from the affected bus were safely shifted to another Haryana Roadways bus following behind and sent on their way to their destinations.
