New gallery to promote Pahari miniature painting, while Tagore-linked historic residence in Shimla awaits ASI Survey
Shimla: Himachal Pradesh Governor Kavinder Gupta on Thursday inaugurated the ‘Kangra Kalam: The Pahari Miniature Art Gallery’ at the Indian Institute of Advanced Study (IIAS) in Shimla and unveiled a statue of Bharat Ratna Dr Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan, highlighting the importance of preserving the state’s cultural heritage.
The newly established gallery aims to showcase Himachal Pradesh’s Pahari miniature painting tradition and help visitors from India and abroad understand the region’s artistic and cultural legacy.
Speaking on the occasion, the Governor said Kangra Kalam was an important symbol of the state’s cultural heritage and stressed the need to preserve it for future generations.
Gupta also said he would write to the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) about preserving a historic residence in Shimla associated with Rabindranath Tagore. He said the site should be surveyed to facilitate its conservation.
Commenting on the state government’s decision to constitute a four-member commission to examine the possibility of creating new districts, the Governor welcomed the initiative, saying the government must have taken the decision after due consideration.
He supported exploring new districts based on population, saying the move could bring administration closer to the people.
