Panchkula, July 13

Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini on Monday launched a statewide cleanliness campaign from Panchkula ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s scheduled visit to the state on July 17. Calling upon citizens to make cleanliness a people’s movement, the chief minister urged everyone to actively contribute towards maintaining clean surroundings across Haryana.
The campaign began with Saini sweeping an area outside the Sector 20 market in Panchkula. He also collected waste to promote scientific garbage disposal and planted a sapling to underline the importance of environmental conservation.
Speaking to reporters, Saini said cleanliness is a shared responsibility and appealed to people to keep their homes, neighbourhoods, markets and public places clean while ensuring proper waste management. He said the special cleanliness campaign will continue across Haryana from July 13 to July 17 with the objective of taking the message of the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan to every household. Ministers, Members of Parliament, MLAs, local public representatives, and party office-bearers will participate in the campaign across the state, he added.
Describing Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s upcoming visit as a matter of pride for Haryana, Saini said the Prime Minister is scheduled to flag off a hydrogen-powered train and to inaugurate and lay the foundation stones for several development projects during the visit.
Highlighting environmental conservation, the chief minister referred to the Prime Minister’s Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam campaign and appealed to people to plant and nurture at least one sapling in honour of their mothers. He also said he has pledged to plant at least 100 saplings wherever he visits and joined a plantation drive in Panchkula as part of the initiative.
