Chandigarh, May 29
Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini on Friday said the state government is committed to promoting yoga in every household and making it a people’s movement across the state.
Chairing a high level meeting to review preparations for International Yoga Day, Saini directed officials to ensure large scale participation and extensive public outreach for the celebrations.
The chief minister said the main state level event will be organised in Panchkula, while yoga programmes will also be held at district, sub division and gram panchayat levels to connect people from all sections of society.
This year’s International Yoga Day theme is “Yoga for Healthy Ageing”. Keeping the theme in focus, the Haryana government will organise yoga camps, awareness drives and outreach programmes across the state, especially to encourage senior citizens to adopt yoga for a healthier lifestyle.
Saini said yoga has received global recognition under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and added that many countries are now embracing India’s ancient tradition and holistic way of life.
He also stressed the importance of connecting the younger generation with India’s cultural values and traditions. The chief minister said the government is working towards the vision of a healthy India and a healthy Haryana.
Calling for active public participation, Saini asked officials to ensure that Yoga Day celebrations are not treated as a mere formality. He directed schools, colleges, panchayats, social organisations, and voluntary groups to participate actively so that more people can be connected with yoga.
Additional Chief Secretary of the Health and Family Welfare Department, Sumita Misra, informed the meeting that extensive arrangements are being made for the successful organisation of International Yoga Day celebrations across Haryana.
Haryana Yog Aayog Chairman Jaideep Arya also emphasised the need for participation from all sections of society and said awareness rallies would be organised across the state ahead of Yoga Day.
