Panchkula Police have arrested Gopal Kumar, the alleged mastermind in the high-profile Sonu Nolta murder case, marking a significant breakthrough in the ongoing investigation. The accused, a former Assembly candidate and resident of Sukhomajri village in Pinjore, was apprehended by the Detective Staff team in the Amravati area.
According to police officials, Kumar was produced in court after his arrest on May 12 and was remanded for one day of police custody. During interrogation, investigators recovered his mobile phone and gathered key evidence linked to the conspiracy behind the killing.
The murder took place on June 5, 2025, when armed assailants shot Sonu Nolta dead outside a mall in Panchkula’s Amravati area. Since then, police have arrested 12 accused in connection with the case registered at Pinjore police station.
Investigators allege that Gopal Kumar played a central role in the conspiracy, including helping the main shooters, arranging weapons, conducting reconnaissance before the crime, and sharing the victim’s location. He is also accused of planning and facilitating the execution of the murder.
Police further stated that the accused has a long criminal history, with over 12 cases registered against him between 2012 and 2022 in Panchkula, Himachal Pradesh, and Ambala. These include charges under attempt to murder, Arms Act, NDPS Act, Mining Act, and other serious offences.
After interrogation, Kumar was sent to judicial custody and lodged in Ambala Jail. Police said the investigation is ongoing to identify other members of the network involved in the conspiracy.
