Dharamshala, May 23

Petrol and diesel prices have increased once again, triggering concern among commercial vehicle drivers who are now demanding a revision in transport fares in line with rising fuel costs.

The continuous hike in fuel prices, which began last Friday, has continued without pause. On Saturday as well, fuel prices were further increased, adding to the financial burden on transport operators.

Commercial vehicle drivers said they are struggling to manage daily expenses, as most have purchased vehicles through bank loans in the hope of supporting their families. They argued that rising fuel prices are making it increasingly difficult to sustain their livelihood and urged the government to consider a proportional increase in fares.

Drivers also appealed to authorities to take into account the impact on lower-income sections dependent on transport work.

According to details, on May 15, premium petrol prices rose by ₹2.95, regular petrol by ₹2.90, and diesel by ₹2.73. On May 19, petrol increased by ₹0.85 and diesel by ₹0.88. In the latest revision, petrol has gone up by ₹0.87, while diesel prices have also increased further.

Amid consecutive fuel price hikes, dissatisfaction among transport operators is growing, and calls for government intervention are becoming more vocal.
