Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu on Monday congratulated the Indian women’s cricket team on their historic World Cup victory, announcing a cash reward of ₹1 crore for Renuka Thakur, the fast bowler from Rohru who played a crucial role in India’s triumph. Sukhu personally called Renuka Thakur to commend her outstanding performance, saying her contribution had made Himachal and the nation proud. “India’s daughters have brought glory to the country on the world stage. Renuka’s achievement will inspire countless young girls across the nation,” he said.
The Chief Minister said the ₹1 crore incentive from the state government recognises Renuka’s exceptional bowling that helped India secure the title. Later in the day, Sukhu met Congress councillors at his official residence, Oak Over, to discuss differences over the mayoral roster issue in the Shimla Municipal Corporation. He said the meeting was “positive” and that all councillors had agreed to work together in unity.
Commenting on the proposed Bijli Mahadev ropeway project in Kullu, Sukhu said the project holds significant potential for tourism development. “We respect the sentiments associated with local deities, but the ropeway will greatly benefit tourism in the region,” he said, adding that MLA Sunder Singh Thakur was closely overseeing the matter.
