Chandigarh, July 18
The Multi-Level Parking facility at the District Courts Complex, Sector 43, was inaugurated on Saturday by Chief Justice of India Justice Surya Kant. The ceremony was attended by Punjab Governor and UT Chandigarh Administrator Gulab Chand Kataria, Supreme Court judges Justice A.G. Masih, Justice Sheel Nagu and Justice Arun Palli, Acting Chief Justice of the Punjab and Haryana High Court Justice Ashwani Kumar Mishra, along with High Court judges, judicial officers, senior advocates and other dignitaries.
In his address, Chief Justice Surya Kant described Hisar as his birthplace and Chandigarh as his karma bhoomi, where his legal career began. Recalling his early years of legal practice in 1984–85, he thanked his mentors, colleagues and friends for their support. He also described Chandigarh as one of India’s best-planned cities, saying its world-renowned architecture continues to attract students and professionals from across the world.
Emphasising the need for modern judicial infrastructure, Justice Surya Kant said basic infrastructure is the backbone of an efficient justice delivery system. He said better facilities not only improve convenience for advocates and litigants but also make the judicial process more efficient. Stressing that infrastructure development must keep pace with growing public needs, he called for continued efforts to strengthen judicial facilities. The ceremony concluded with a vote of thanks and the National Anthem.
The programme began with the unveiling of the inauguration plaque, followed by a documentary showcasing the project. Delivering the welcome address, Acting Chief Justice Ashwani Kumar Mishra highlighted the importance of strengthening judicial infrastructure. Governor Gulab Chand Kataria said Justice Surya Kant, who was born in Hisar and began his legal career in the region, has brought immense pride to the legal fraternity through his dedication and distinguished service. He said the new Multi-Level Parking facility would ease congestion within the court complex and improve convenience for advocates, litigants, court staff and visitors.
