Chandigarh, April 16
Several Chandigarh schools received bomb threat emails on Thursday, prompting immediate action by authorities. Officials suspect these may be false alarms, as seen recently in Punjab and Haryana.
Police deployed bomb disposal teams, dog squads, and emergency services, including ambulances and fire brigades, to the affected schools. Search and sanitisation operations were conducted to ensure safety.
“This is being taken very seriously, though past incidents in the region have turned out to be hoaxes,” an official stated. The official added that precautionary measures are necessary to protect students and staff.
This incident follows similar threats sent to schools in Patiala and Moga, Punjab, which were later found to be baseless. Authorities in Haryana have also addressed comparable threats in recent weeks.
While no suspicious material has been found so far, officials emphasised that investigations are ongoing to trace the origin of the emails.
The repeated nature of such threats has raised concerns among parents and school administrators, prompting reinforcement of security protocols. Authorities said they are working to identify those behind the emails and prevent further disruptions.
