Varsity secures 701-800 global band in debut appearance

Dharamshala: The Central University of Himachal Pradesh secured a place in the 701-800 band of the Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings 2027 in its first appearance, Vice-Chancellor Proffesor SP Bansal said at a press conference. He said the university ranked 17th among around 1,400 central, state, private and deemed universities in India.

Bansal said the university stood third among 56 central universities and first among government higher education institutions in Himachal Pradesh.

The ranking was based on 17 performance indicators across five areas, including teaching, research environment, research quality, international outlook and industry. The university secured a teaching score of 35.4.

Bansal said projects undertaken over the past three years, in collaboration with ISRO and international MoUs had benefited the university. He said investment in research and scientific facilities had continued. The university received around Rs 11 crore under ANRF this year, including nearly Rs 7 crore for equipment.

On the Dharamsala campus, Bansal said construction remained a priority. He said some budget-related formalities had affected the pace of work, but the budget process had eventually moved forward. He expressed hope that, if conditions remained favourable, a part of the campus would be ready for shifting by January.

On the proposed botanical garden at Dehra, Bansal said six acres had been earmarked for the project. A large botanical garden, including a Navgraha Vatika, would be developed and opened to students, researchers, the public, schools, colleges and tourists.

Bansal said the ranking was an achievement for the university and that efforts would continue to strengthen research, education and international collaboration.
