Punjabi trucking community’s concerns discussed during Mequon meeting

Patiala: US Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy visited the Mequon residence of Punjabi businessman and philanthropist Darshan Singh Dhaliwal near Milwaukee, where he met Darshan Singh Dhaliwal and his younger brother, Charanjit Singh Dhaliwal, president of the Punjab Cycling Association. The meeting focused on issues faced by Punjabi truck drivers, transport operators, and other businesses in the US trucking sector.

The Dhaliwal brothers highlighted the Punjabi community’s contribution to the US transportation sector and raised concerns about transportation regulations, business operations, and practical challenges faced by drivers and transport entrepreneurs. They stressed the need for continued dialogue between policymakers and the Punjabi community to address these concerns.

They said the livelihoods of many Punjabi families in the US were directly or indirectly linked to trucking and transportation. They also highlighted the contribution of Punjabi drivers and entrepreneurs to the US economy through their work and business activities.

The meeting also connected to Punjab, as many families from the state had members working in the US trucking sector. The interaction allowed the Dhaliwal brothers to raise these professionals’ concerns and expectations with the US Transportation Secretary.

The Dhaliwal family has established a wide-ranging business in the US, including hundreds of gas stations. Alongside their business activities, Darshan Singh Dhaliwal and Charanjit Singh Dhaliwal has also been involved in community initiatives and social service efforts, while maintaining ties with Punjab.

The family was also connected to former Punjab Cabinet Minister and Aam Aadmi Party Samana Assembly constituency in-charge Surjit Singh Rakhra, who has been involved in public service and work related to issues faced by people in his area.

The meeting provided an opportunity to place issues concerning the Punjabi trucking community before a senior US administration official.
