Lawyer questions fresh SIT summons in drug case
Patiala: Shiromani Akali Dal leader Bikram Singh Majithia did not appear before the Punjab Police special investigation team (SIT) in Patiala on Monday for questioning in a 2021 drug case. Majithia’s lawyer, Arshdeep Kaler, appeared before the SIT at the Patiala Police Lines on his behalf.
Speaking to reporters, Kaler questioned the fresh summons issued to Majithia, saying the SIT had previously told the Supreme Court that its investigation into the case had been completed.
He also alleged that the court had directed the SIT not to make statements about the case to the media. The lawyer claimed that the summons issued to Majithia were leaked and described it as contempt of court.
Kaler said the SIT had found no evidence against the Akali leader despite the investigation continuing for several years.
He alleged that the summons were aimed at diverting attention from another matter involving allegations against Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann and his close aide Rajveer Ghumman.
He also said the SIT refused to accept the written response submitted by Majithia’s legal team. Kaler said the response would now be sent to the SIT by email.
