Panchkula, May 11
Concerns were raised in Panchkula after the main CCTV camera installed at the strong room storing Electronic Voting Machines reportedly remained non-functional for nearly 1.5 hours on Friday.
Candidates and their supporters objected to the disruption in surveillance, alleging that the camera monitoring the strong room was switched off between around 9:30 am and 11 am. The issue prompted political workers and candidates to gather at the site seeking clarification from officials.
Congress candidate Sudha Bhardwaj and several party workers also reached the strong room after learning about the disruption to the CCTV.
Officials later called a CCTV technical expert to restore the system and rectify the issue. Authorities have not yet issued a detailed statement regarding the cause of the malfunction. The incident sparked concern among political parties and candidates, prompting demands for strict monitoring and transparency in the security arrangements for the EVM strong room.
