Chandigarh, April 24
Amritsar Police on Thursday said it has uncovered a cross-border network involved in drug and arms smuggling, arresting three persons and recovering 915 grams of ICE, also known as methamphetamine, along with firearms from their possession.
Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav said five sophisticated pistols and two live cartridges were seized during the operation. The accused have been identified as Sukhwinder Singh alias Sukha, aged 21; Sola Singh alias Sonu, aged 29; and Karan Singh, aged 22, all residents of Sahanke village in Ferozepur district. Police said the recovered weapons include two 9MM Glock pistols and three .30 bore pistols.
Yadav said the investigation revealed that the accused were in contact with Pakistan-based smugglers through social media platforms and were receiving consignments of drugs and arms through drones sent across the international border. He said the three were acting as local handlers for distributing the contraband within India.
Amritsar Police Commissioner Gurpreet Singh Bhullar said the arrests were made based on specific intelligence inputs. He said the probe found that consignments were being dropped in densely forested areas of the Ferozepur sector. The accused would retrieve the material from these locations and supply it to different areas, he added.
Police said further investigation is underway to identify other members of the network and to trace the full extent of the smuggling operations. The action is part of ongoing efforts by law enforcement agencies to curb cross-border smuggling and dismantle organized criminal networks operating in the region.
