Chandigarh, April 18

Haryana Aam Aadmi Party chief Sushil Gupta on Friday said the party will contest the upcoming municipal corporation elections in Panchkula, Ambala, and Sonipat, asserting that voters are seeking an alternative to the BJP and the Congress ahead of the May 10 polls.

Gupta said he recently met AAP national convener Arvind Kejriwal in Chandigarh to discuss preparations for the civic body elections and other key issues concerning the state. He said the party will field candidates across all three municipal corporations and described the AAP as a strong and honest alternative in Haryana. He added that candidates selected for posts ranging from mayor to ward councilors would be educated, dedicated, and have a clean public image.

“The public is fed up with the politics of caste, religion, and deceit practiced by the BJP and the Congress,” Gupta said. He said the party’s focus would be on eliminating corruption in municipal corporations and ensuring transparent delivery of basic services, including electricity, water supply, sanitation, road infrastructure, and street lighting.

“The people of Haryana have made up their minds. The same facilities currently being enjoyed by people in Punjab should also be made available in Haryana,” he said. Referring to the upcoming elections, Gupta said, “The polling scheduled for May 10 will not merely be an act of voting. It will serve as the foundation for a better future for Haryana.”

The Haryana State Election Commission has announced that elections for the municipal corporations of Panchkula, Ambala, and Sonipat, as well as other local bodies and panchayati raj institutions, will be held on May 10. Vote counting will take place on May 13. The announcement signals the AAP’s intent to strengthen its presence in Haryana’s urban local bodies as it positions itself as an alternative in the state’s civic electoral landscape.
