As Navratri celebrations bring families together for dance and festivity, the popular Indian dance forms Garba and Dandiya are proving to be more than just cultural traditions—they’re also fitness routines with significant health benefits. The energetic movements involved in Garba and Dandiya can help with weight loss, burning approximately 200-250 calories in a 30-minute session. According to the Hindustan Times, dedicated dancers could shed up to 4-5 kg over the nine-day festival, depending on intensity and diet.
In addition to weight loss, the fast-paced dances improve cardiovascular health and endurance, targeting muscle groups like the legs, core, arms, and hips. The dances also boost flexibility, range of motion, and mental well-being by relieving stress. Health experts advise precautions, including warming up, staying hydrated, and wearing supportive footwear to avoid injury while dancing, the news outlet reported.
