Markets across Amritsar witnessed festive activity on Wednesday as married women prepared to celebrate Karwa Chauth, with crowds gathering for mehndi application and shopping ahead of the festival.
Women observed the occasion with enthusiasm, describing Karwa Chauth as a special day dedicated to praying for their husbands’ long life. Those visiting markets for mehndi spoke about their excitement and the festival’s importance in their lives.
Women said Karwa Chauth remained one of the occasions they eagerly awaited each year, with family members sharing in the celebrations and supporting their preparations.
They also pointed to changes in the way the festival is celebrated across generations. While traditional rituals continue to hold importance, relationships between husbands and wives have become more open and friendly, they said. Husbands now participate more actively in preparations and support their wives in celebrating the occasion.
Shopping and dressing up have also become an important part of the festivities, with women enjoying the chance to choose items of their liking and prepare for the day.
Despite changes in celebration styles, women said their faith in Karwa Chauth and its significance in married life remained strong. The festival continues to reflect love, mutual trust, and togetherness between spouses.
