The Chandigarh Traffic Police has issued a festive season traffic advisory for October 28 to November 8, 2026, anticipating heavy vehicle movement across the city. The advisory includes designated parking facilities near 21 markets to help shoppers park their vehicles and reduce congestion.

According to the advisory, residents should walk to nearby markets whenever possible instead of using motor vehicles. Commuters have also been urged to plan journeys to avoid peak hours and consider carpooling to minimise the number of vehicles on roads.

The police have warned that vehicles parked on roads may be towed or clamped. Motorists have been advised against parking or driving on cycle tracks and pedestrian pathways.

To facilitate parking during the festive season, designated spaces at government schools and colleges near 21 markets will be available after school hours and throughout the day on holidays until Diwali.

The listed locations include markets in Sectors 8, 15, 18, 19, 20, 22, 29, 30, 32, 34, 35, 36, 37, 38, 40, 41, 44, 45, 46 and 47, along with Mani Majra. The advisory identifies nearby government educational institutions where visitors can park their vehicles.

The police have also advised motorists not to leave valuables inside parked vehicles, clarifying that they will not be responsible for belongings left in vehicles.

People whose vehicles are towed or clamped can contact the Chandigarh Traffic Police helpline at 1073 or call the emergency number 112.

Residents have been urged to remain patient during traffic congestion and avoid unnecessary honking. The police have also appealed to citizens to cooperate with traffic management measures and follow designated parking arrangements.

The advisory aims to facilitate access to market areas during the festive period while reducing traffic congestion and parking-related difficulties. Residents have been encouraged to follow the instructions and use the designated facilities wherever applicable.
