Bikanervala opened new outlets in Mohali and Melbourne simultaneously on Friday, adding to its presence in India and overseas markets. Managing Director Shyam Sunder Aggarwal shared insights into the company’s evolution as the brand marked the two launches.

With roots in Bikaner, Rajasthan, the company built its business around traditional Indian sweets. Its early association with barfi priced at Rs 10 offers a glimpse into its beginnings before it expanded into a wider range of Indian snacks.

The company’s growth reflects a broader shift among traditional food businesses, many of which have diversified their offerings to cater to changing consumer preferences. Expanding into new markets also brings challenges, including maintaining product quality, adapting to local tastes and building customer confidence.

The new outlets in Mohali and Melbourne represent Bikanervala’s continued expansion across domestic and international markets, as Indian food brands seek to reach consumers beyond their traditional customer base.

Balancing tradition with expansion

The company’s journey highlights how businesses built around traditional products can diversify while retaining their culinary roots. As Indian cuisine reaches wider international audiences, established food brands have opportunities to introduce familiar flavours to new markets.

The long-term success of such expansion depends on how effectively businesses maintain consistency, respond to local preferences and sustain customer trust across locations.
