The MLA Hostel Dispensary in Sector 3, Chandigarh, has added medical equipment worth Rs 1.20 crore, introducing advanced diagnostic and therapeutic facilities for patients from across the Tricity, legislators from two states and government employees.

Dr Sumita Misra, Additional Chief Secretary, Health and Family Welfare, inaugurated the equipment, which includes an advanced ultrasound colour Doppler system, digital radiography system, X-ray machine, physiotherapy equipment and an electrocardiogram (ECG) machine.

The ultrasound colour Doppler system, procured at Rs 77.15 lakh, offers 4D imaging, fetal echocardiography and elastography for liver, breast and thyroid conditions. It also features digital image storage and connectivity with hospital information systems.

The dispensary has added a digital radiography system costing Rs 11.01 lakh and a 300 mA X-ray machine worth Rs 7.66 lakh, replacing film-based imaging with digital facilities.

For physiotherapy and pain management, the facility has installed a deep oscillation pulsed electrostatic field therapy unit worth Rs 14.90 lakh and a shockwave therapy unit costing Rs 8.70 lakh. An ECG machine, acquired for Rs 68,320, has also been added for cardiac monitoring.

Dr Misra said the inauguration marked the first phase of a broader plan to modernise the dispensary. Equipment worth another Rs 48.60 lakh is in the procurement pipeline.

The proposed additions include five-part and three-part haematology analysers, a semi-automatic urine analyser, a semi-automatic biochemistry analyser, an immunoassay analyser and a benchtop erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR) analyser. A further Rs 2 lakh has been earmarked for essential physiotherapy and dental equipment.

“Strengthening healthcare infrastructure and improving access to essential medical facilities remain our top priorities,” Dr Misra added.

The upgrade aims to bring diagnostic testing and pain management services under one roof, reducing the need for patients to visit separate facilities.
