Panel to review existing administrative boundaries and recommend changes within six months
Shimla: The Himachal Pradesh government has accelerated the process of reorganising administrative units in the state by constituting a four-member commission. Retired Himachal Pradesh High Court judge Justice Dharam Chand Chaudhary will head the commission.
The commission will study the existing structure of districts, sub-divisions, tehsils, sub-tehsils and development blocks across the state. It will recommend creating, merging, or dividing administrative units based on population, geographical conditions, accessibility, and public convenience.
The commission has been given six months to submit its report. The state government said the move aims to bring administration closer to the people and improve governance efficiency.
The other members are advocate Vishal Panwar, retired Indian Forest Service officer Rajesh Sharma and the Director of Land Records, who will serve as the member secretary. Administrative secretaries of the Revenue, Finance, Rural Development and Panchayati Raj, Forest, Public Works, Jal Shakti and General Administration departments will participate as special invitees, as required.
