Cricket star’s debut highlights ambitions to build Indian sports brands for global markets
Chandigarh: Virat Kohli has made his debut on LinkedIn, using his first post on the professional networking platform to share his ambitions beyond cricket. The 37-year-old cricketer spoke about his vision of an India where every sport is celebrated and athletes compete at the highest level.
In his LinkedIn post, Kohli highlighted the emergence of a new generation of Indian athletes capable of making a mark globally. He also underlined the potential for homegrown sports brands to gain international recognition.
Kohli’s ambitions extend beyond brand endorsements. He has invested in Agilitas Sports and is associated with one8world as a co-founder and co-creator. His broader vision is to help build an India-rooted sports ecosystem spanning manufacturing, consumer brands and distribution.
According to media reports, Kohli declined a proposed Puma contract extension reportedly worth Rs 300 crore over eight years and instead invested Rs 40 crore of his own capital in Agilitas Sports.
The reported move signals a shift from endorsing brands to investing in businesses focused on design, manufacturing and retail.
Through his LinkedIn debut, Kohli has put the spotlight on his ambition to help build homegrown sports brands and strengthen India’s presence in the global sports business.
