Germany, Hungary, Qatar, South Korea, South Africa and Turkiye also in continuous dialogue with IOC

Chandigarh: India is among seven countries currently in continuous dialogue with the International Olympic Committee (IOC) over hosting the 2036 Summer Olympics, the IOC said on Tuesday.

Germany, Hungary, Qatar, the Republic of Korea, South Africa and Turkiye are the other countries listed as interested parties in the process.

The IOC said the seven countries had been invited to present their Games projects to the Future Host Commission in November. It also said no additional interested parties would be considered for the 2036 Games after the October 31 deadline.

According to the timeline outlined by the IOC, the next stage will include feasibility assessments, with the process expected to move into strategic dialogue in March 2027. Preferred hosts are expected to emerge in 2028, while the final decision on the 2036 host is scheduled for mid-2029 through an IOC vote.

The IOC said the interested parties are currently in the continuous dialogue stage, which allows National Olympic Committees to work with the organisation on their hosting ambitions and develop their respective projects.

The process also provides for discussions regarding future editions. The IOC said several National Olympic Committees were holding non-committal talks about hosting Olympic Games beyond 2036.

India submitted its Expression of Interest to host the 2036 Olympics in 2024. Ahmedabad has been identified as India’s preferred host city in the country’s bid process.

The next two editions of the Summer Olympics have already been allocated, with Los Angeles hosting the 2028 Games and Brisbane staging the 2032 edition.

The IOC has yet to select the host of the 2036 Olympics, with India and the six other interested parties now moving through the next stages of the process.
