Manali: President Droupadi Murmu is scheduled to visit Kullu-Manali from October 6 to 8, with the district administration putting in place traffic restrictions and deploying around 600 police personnel for security arrangements.

Murmu is scheduled to visit the Atal Tunnel on the morning of October 7 and the Hidimba Devi Temple between 3 pm and 5 pm the same day.

The arrangements were reviewed at a meeting chaired by Kullu Deputy Commissioner Amit Kumar Sharma in Manali. Superintendent of Police Abhishek S also attended the meeting.

The administration has issued a three-day traffic plan under which the movement of trucks and heavy vehicles will be restricted at several points from October 6 to 8. Barricading and checkpoints will also be set up along the President’s convoy routes.

On October 7, traffic will be regulated from early morning at the Sissu-Atal Tunnel North Portal Bridge, while trucks and heavy vehicles bound for Lahaul-Spiti will be stopped at the NGT barrier from 7 am.

Checkpoints will be activated at several locations, including Log Huts Chowk, Manalsu Curve, Ram Bagh, Mission Hospital, Old Bridge, Bhootnath Chowk, Vashisht Road, Nehru Kund Bridge and Palchan.

Traffic will be restored after the President’s convoy passes through the affected routes, the administration said.

For the visit to the Hidimba Devi Temple, traffic will be regulated at Ram Bagh Chowk, Ghatotkach Chowk, Manalsu and Log Huts Chowk from 3 pm to 5 pm.

On October 8, heavy vehicles will again be stopped at the NGT barrier from 7 am, while restrictions will also be imposed at Palchan and the Atal Tunnel. Barricading will be carried out at key points from 9 am before the President leaves the Circuit House for the SASE helipad at 10 am.

SP Abhishek S said Manali had been divided into nine sectors, with around 600 police personnel deployed at various locations. He appealed to residents, tourists and motorists to follow the traffic advisory and cooperate with the administration during the visit.

The Deputy Commissioner also urged tourism stakeholders, local organisations and residents to cooperate with the administration to ensure smooth movement and minimise inconvenience during the President’s visit.
