New galleries draw visitors, with foreign tourists showing interest in historic weapons and Kangra paintings
Dharamshala: The newly opened ground-floor galleries at the Kangra Art Museum in Dharamshala are drawing increased interest from tourists, with the museum recording higher footfall on weekends.
Dr Ritu Malkotia, curator of the museum, said around 30 to 35 visitors were coming on weekends, compared with an average daily footfall of 20 to 22 visitors on regular days.
She said the museum had also attracted foreign tourists and delegates in recent days, including visitors from Sri Lanka, France, Russia and Israel. The visitors showed particular interest in the historical weapons displayed at the museum, she added.
The new galleries also feature Kangra-style paintings and other artworks, which have been attracting visitors.
The State Museum, Shimla, has provided some of the historical weapons for display at the Kangra Art Museum.
Malkotia said CCTV cameras were being installed on the ground floor to strengthen security and surveillance. The work is expected to be completed by next week, while the first floor already has CCTV coverage.
