New Delhi:Prime Minister Narendra Modi has hailed Indian pilot Captain Smit Machchhar as a “hero” for helping save the lives of 174 people onboard a Flydubai flight. Modi praised Machchhar’s courage and presence of mind in the face of grave danger, saying the captain showed immense courage despite being seriously injured.
“Despite being seriously injured, he showed immense courage and an unwavering resolve to protect the lives of others,” Modi said on Thursday.
The prime minister said Machchhar’s valour helped save hundreds of lives and avert a major tragedy. He said India was proud of the captain and prayed for his speedy recovery, renewed strength and good health.
External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar also praised Machchhar’s actions, describing his courage and presence of mind as extraordinary.
