Rs 5.5 crore scholarship scheme announced for needy students

NIIB provided free, skill-based professional education to around 1,500 flood-affected girl students and announced a Rs 5.5-crore scholarship scheme for needy, economically weaker students at its 15th annual convocation held in Chandigarh on September 23. The initiative aimed to support employment and self-employment through professional courses, including beauty programmes.

Around 1,500 students from more than 30 branches received degrees and diplomas at the convocation. The institute said it would continue expanding opportunities in skill-based professional education to help students develop employable skills.

Punjab State Women Commission Chairperson Raj Lali Gill said women’s empowerment was not limited to rights but also included economic self-reliance. She said women and girls needed practical skills to help them stand on their own feet, and that employment-oriented skill development played an important role in making the youth self-reliant.

Gill appreciated NIIB’s initiative to provide skill education opportunities to flood-affected girl students.

Punjab State Observer Gayatri Bishnoi and Punjab Tourism and Cultural Affairs Adviser Deepak Bali also appreciated the institute’s career-oriented education initiatives.

NIIB Managing Director and AAP Punjab state spokesperson Dr Pooja Singh congratulated the students and said the institute would continue to expand opportunities for skill-based professional education.

She said education should not be limited to obtaining certificates, but should also equip students to use their skills to build better career prospects.
