Panchkula police arrest 20-year-old with 10 gm heroin

Crime Branch-03 made the arrest following a tip-off about the supply of heroin in the Chandimandir area.

Panchkula police have arrested a 20-year-old man with 10 gm of heroin in the Chandimandir area and obtained his two-day police remand, officials said. The accused was identified as Naveen, a resident of Shimla district in Himachal Pradesh who was living as a tenant there, police said. A mobile phone was also seized from his possession.

According to DCP Crime and Traffic IPS Amarinder Singh, the Crime Branch-03 team received secret information on September 21 that the accused was allegedly coming to the Chandimandir area to supply heroin.

Acting on the information, a police team led by Crime Branch-03 in-charge Inspector Ajit Singh set up a checkpoint near the bus queue shelter in Chandimandir village and began keeping watch. After some time, the accused allegedly arrived at the location on foot. The police team detained him and questioned him. During the subsequent search, 10 gm of heroin was recovered from his possesion, police said.

A case has been registered at Chandimandir police station under the provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act. The accused was produced before a court, which granted the police a two-day remand for further investigation.

Police are questioning the accused to ascertain the alleged source of the heroin supply and identify other people who may be linked to the network, officials said. The arrest is part of the police action against drug trafficking in the area.
