Sanitation workers accuse Haryana government of delaying action on their demands as protest intensifies in Panchkula.

Panchkula, August 29

Sanitation workers in Panchkula intensified their ongoing protest by staging a symbolic funeral procession of Minister Krishan Bedi’s effigy and burning it at Municipal Corporation Chowk.

The protesting workers, who have been sitting on a dharna over their demands, carried the effigy from the Municipal Corporation office to Municipal Corporation Chowk. During the procession, they raised slogans against the minister, including “Krishan Bedi Murdabad”, and carried the effigy on their shoulders as a mark of protest.

After reaching Municipal Corporation Chowk, the protesters set the effigy on fire.

The sanitation workers alleged that the government had earlier given assurances regarding their demands. According to the protesters, they were told that a decision would be taken towards considering and accepting their demands after the Chief Minister returned following a two-day absence.

However, the workers said no concrete decision had been taken so far, prompting them to intensify their agitation against the minister.

The protest comes amid continued discussions between sanitation workers and the Haryana government over their demands and the ongoing strike. According to recent reports, the government has indicated that agreement has been reached on several demands, while the workers’ agitation continues.

The workers said the symbolic funeral procession and burning of the effigy were intended to highlight their dissatisfaction with what they described as the government’s failure to resolve their concerns despite earlier assurances.

The agitation remains focused on securing action on the workers’ demands, with talks between the employees and the government continuing.
