Ladarcha fair ends with call to preserve Spiti’s heritage

Traditional performances, sporting events and cultural activities mark the conclusion of the three-day state-level Ladarcha Fair in Spiti.

Deputy Commissioner of Lahaul and Spiti Kiran Bhadana today formally concluded the three-day state-level Ladarcha Fair, with sporting competition winners, organising committee members and officials honoured during the closing ceremony.

Speaking on the occasion, Bhadana said fairs and festivals play an important role in preserving and promoting ancient culture, traditions and customs. She said maintaining these traditions was the collective responsibility of society.

She said Himachal Pradesh was known for its rich cultural heritage and that the fairs and festivals celebrated across the state were an important reflection of that heritage.

Bhadana congratulated the Ladarcha Fair Committee and local residents for successfully organising the event. She said the Ladarcha Fair in Spiti had its own significance, attracting not only people from the Spiti region and other parts of the district but also visitors from other districts and states, besides tourists.

During the ceremony, the Deputy Commissioner presented mementoes to members of the fair committee and officials from various departments. She also distributed prizes to the winning and runner-up teams of different sporting competitions held during the fair.

As part of the state-level Ladarcha Fair, the Red Cross Society organised a raffle draw. Bhadana, Additional Deputy Commissioner Shikha Simtiya and children conducted the draw in the presence of ticket buyers and other people attending the fair. Prizes were subsequently given to the winners.

Earlier, Ladarcha Fair Committee chairperson and Additional Deputy Commissioner, Spiti, Shikha Simtiya welcomed the chief guest. She honoured Bhadana with a shawl, traditional cap, memento and thangka, and thanked her for presiding over the closing ceremony. She also briefed attendees about the activities organised during the fair.

The final cultural evening featured performances by local artists and women’s groups from Spiti, who performed traditional dances in traditional attire. Renowned folk artists from Himachal Pradesh and other states also entertained audiences with Pahari, Hindi, film and Himachali songs.
