New Delhi: Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Friday questioned the Bhagwant Mann government over Punjab’s drug menace, gangsterism and organised crime, citing the death of a man in Dirba and the murder of anti-drug activist Parvinder Singh Jhotta in Mansa.
In a post on X, Shah raised concerns about the state’s law and order situation and asked who would take responsibility for the safety of Punjab’s people.
He said the two incidents had raised serious questions about public safety. Shah also referred to allegations levelled by Jhotta’s father against the Aam Aadmi Party government and a party MLA.
The Union Home Minister said the Ministry of Home Affairs would seek responses from the Punjab government on both incidents.
Shah accused the state government of failing to adequately address the growing drug trade and organised crime. He called for decisive action against drug networks and an impartial investigation into alleged political patronage extended to criminals.
Reiterating the BJP’s commitment to tackling the issue, Shah said his party would work towards making Punjab drug-free, free of gangsters and secure if voted to power in the state.
He said the party’s priorities would include action against drug trafficking, protecting young people and ensuring that criminals faced strict legal action.
