BJP questions outsourced recruitment process, alleges Congress failed to fulfil job promises to Himachal youth

The Himachal Pradesh Assembly witnessed a fresh confrontation between the ruling Congress and the opposition on Tuesday over unemployment and outsourced recruitment, with BJP MLAs walking out of the house, raising slogans against the state government after expressing dissatisfaction with Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu’s response during the Question Hour.

The Opposition has raised questions on unemployment and recruitment through outsourcing during the fourth day of the Assembly’s Monsoon Session. Following the Chief Minister’s reply, BJP members staged a walkout and protested outside the House.

Speaking to the media, Leader of Opposition Jai Ram Thakur accused the Congress government of failing to fulfill its promises to the state’s youth. He said the party had come to power after promising one lakh government jobs every year but had failed to deliver on its commitment, even as its tenure neared completion.

Thakur alleged that the government had secured the youth’s votes by making employment promises, but young people were now struggling to find jobs. He also alleged that outsourcing companies were being registered in the names of Congress functionaries.

The Opposition also referred to a statement by the Parliamentary Affairs Minister regarding the provision of 600 jobs and questioned the process through which such recruitments were being carried out.

Former minister Bikram Singh Thakur also addressed the media outside the Assembly, saying he had raised questions in the House over recruitment through outsourcing but alleged that his concerns were not allowed to be properly raised.

Bikram Thakur questioned the criteria being used for outsourced appointments and asked whether money was being taken in exchange for jobs. He also asked whether the Vigilance Department would investigate only Opposition leaders or also examine allegations related to recruitment.

He demanded that an independent agency investigate the matter, saying transparency was necessary in the recruitment process.

The employment issue added to the political tensions surrounding the Monsoon Session, with the opposition continuing to target the Congress government over its employment-related promises and recruitment policies.
