The mortal remains of Vikram Rana, who was reported missing in the Wayanad tragedy in Kerala, reached his native Takoli Girtha village in Himachal Pradesh’s Kangra district on Monday, seven days after the incident. His son performed the last rites in the presence of grieving family members and villagers.
According to family members, Vikram Rana’s body was recovered during an extensive search operation involving nearly 1,000 volunteers and dog squads. A large number of villagers gathered to pay their final respects as his body arrived at the village. He is survived by his wife, son and daughter.
Vikram Rana’s elder brother, Kulwant Rana, thanked the Kerala government and its ministers for supporting the search operation. He also expressed gratitude to Member of Parliament Priyanka Gandhi for extending assistance to the family during the difficult time.
Former Himachal Pradesh Forest Minister Rakesh Pathania attended the funeral and said Vikram Rana’s death was no less than a sacrifice. He urged the Central Government to consider granting martyr status to people who lose their lives in such tragic disasters.
Fatehpur Sub Divisional Magistrate Raman Sharma said the administration is assessing the case and will send the necessary proposal to the state government to ensure all possible assistance is provided to the bereaved family.
