Mumbai, July 12
Veteran actor Hema Malini celebrated 60 years in Indian cinema with a special charity concert in Mumbai, reflecting on her remarkable journey and expressing gratitude to filmmakers, co-stars, technicians and her family for their constant support. She said she feels blessed and proud to have spent six decades in an industry that continues to reward talent and dedication.
The celebration featured live performances of some of her most memorable film songs by leading singers, with colleagues and friends from the film industry joining the event to honour her contribution to Indian cinema.
Speaking at the event, Malini thanked the audience for their love over the years and acknowledged the role her family played in shaping her career.
“I’m thankful to my mother; she stood by me. I believe mothers play an important role in their children’s lives and careers. My family was with me, and that is why I was able to grow,” she said.
The veteran actor, who has appeared in more than 200 films and also directed two feature films, said the film industry offers opportunities to those willing to work hard.
“The film industry is so vast and beautiful. It gives opportunity to each and every one. The only thing is you have to be talented and dedicated and then you will reach the top,” she said.
Malini also recognised the contribution of technicians, including costume designers, makeup artists and cinematographers, saying their dedication helped shape her on-screen image throughout her career.
When asked about the possibility of a biopic based on her life, she said actor Deepika Padukone could portray her if she wished.
Industry colleagues attending the event praised Malini’s professionalism, discipline and resilience. Filmmaker Ramesh Sippy recalled her exceptional memory and commitment during the making of several films, while actor Madhoo spoke about her ability to remain composed during difficult times. Actor Poonam Dhillon also praised her dedication to both cinema and public life.
The charity concert also featured a special tribute to veteran actor Dharmendra and supported film workers’ organisations through a financial contribution. The event celebrated Malini’s lasting contribution to Indian cinema while recognising the collective efforts of artists and technicians who have been part of her journey.
