Shimla, July 6

Heavy rainfall continued to wreak havoc in Shimla, with a landslide near the historic Christ Church on the Ridge causing a section of a roadside retaining wall to collapse. No casualties or property loss were reported as no one was present at the site when the incident occurred.

The continuous downpour has raised concerns among residents as rain-related incidents continue to affect different parts of the state capital.

In a separate incident on Chamyana Road, a dry roadside tree suddenly collapsed, damaging four parked vehicles. According to the Traffic Police, no injuries were reported.

Police personnel and officials from the concerned department reached the site and began clearing the fallen tree to restore smooth vehicular movement.

Himachal Pradesh Public Works Minister Vikramaditya Singh said that a detailed departmental review meeting would be held on Tuesday, with all concerned officials joining online.

He said immediate deployment of JCBs, poclain machines and other equipment would be planned at locations where roads remain blocked to restore connectivity at the earliest.

Singh said the government’s priority is to reopen all closed roads as quickly as possible to minimise inconvenience to orchardists, farmers and the general public.
