Mumbai, July 4

Actor Preity Zinta has approached the Bombay High Court seeking the immediate removal of AI-generated deepfake videos, morphed images and other unauthorized content featuring her from social media and online platforms. She has also sought an injunction restraining individuals and digital platforms from publishing or circulating such content. The matter came up before the court on Friday.
The case was heard by a single bench of Justice Madhav Jamdar, which, after hearing preliminary submissions, asked the parties, including the online platforms, to work out a mechanism to remove the disputed content from their websites. The matter has been posted for further hearing on July 6.
In her petition, Zinta referred to AI-generated deepfake videos, manipulated images and chatbot-style interactions that allegedly use her identity without authorization. She has sought urgent directions from the High Court for the immediate deletion of such content and an order restraining platforms and other entities from publishing or sharing similar material in the future.
The plea highlights growing concerns about the misuse of artificial intelligence to create fabricated digital content that closely mimics a person’s appearance or voice without their consent.
The High Court will resume the matter on July 6 after the parties explore a mechanism to remove the disputed content from online platforms. The outcome of the case could have wider implications for tackling AI-generated deepfakes and protecting individuals from unauthorized digital impersonation.
