Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini on Friday said yoga reflects India’s spiritual strength and is an invaluable gift of Sanatan culture that has gained global recognition. Addressing a yoga practice programme at Baba Bhuman Shah Dera in Sirsa ahead of International Yoga Day, Saini said yoga has evolved from an ancient practice into a global movement.

The Chief Minister said yoga is not limited to physical exercise but is a complete way of life that connects the body, mind, soul, and society. He described yoga as a symbol of India’s cultural and spiritual values that continues to benefit people worldwide.

Saini said yoga achieved international recognition due to the efforts of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and the United Nations General Assembly subsequently declared June 21 as International Yoga Day in 2014. He added that the proposal received support from 177 countries, and yoga is now practiced across the globe.

“Yoga has attained an international stature due to the efforts of Prime Minister Narendra Modi,” Saini said, adding that India’s spiritual heritage is being recognised worldwide through yoga.

During the programme, organised ahead of International Yoga Day celebrations on June 21, Saini also praised Prime Minister Modi for completing 12 years in office and linked India’s development in infrastructure, technology and the economy with the country’s growing global influence.

The Chief Minister also paid tribute to Baba Bhuman Shah, describing him as a social reformer dedicated to public welfare. He said Baba Bhuman Shah’s teachings promoted awareness against substance abuse and added that the Haryana government is working continuously to tackle the issue.

Highlighting the contribution of the Kamboj community, Saini said its history represents bravery, patriotism, perseverance and service. He also acknowledged Baba Brahm Dass for carrying forward the spiritual legacy associated with Baba Bhuman Shah Dera.

The Haryana government has been organising yoga-related programmes across different districts ahead of International Yoga Day, with events aimed at promoting health, wellness and awareness among people.
