Panchkula, June 12
The Panchkula district administration has intensified its campaign against illegal mining, with Deputy Commissioner Satpal Sharma uncovering major violations during a surprise inspection in Raipur Rani tehsil on Thursday. During the field visit, officials found illegal mining activities on nearly 5 acres of land in Shahjapur village. Preliminary investigations revealed that excavation had been conducted to a depth of around 20 to 25 feet in violation of mining regulations.
Authorities also found evidence that gravel and other minerals had been illegally extracted from the site. Investigators also found evidence that the excavated area had been refilled after the minerals were removed.
Taking serious note of the violations, the Deputy Commissioner directed officials to issue a notice to the concerned landowner, seeking clarification on whose permission the mining operations were being conducted. Satpal Sharma reiterated that the district administration is following a zero-tolerance policy against illegal mining and warned that strict legal action would be taken against anyone found to be involved in unauthorized mineral extraction.
He said the administration is maintaining continuous surveillance on mining activities and that no negligence or irregularity in such cases would be tolerated at any level. Tehsildar Barwala Sanjeev Atri was also present during the inspection.
