Dharamshala, May 19
As soaring temperatures begin affecting the hill regions alongside the plains, the Kangra district administration has intensified efforts to tackle a possible water crisis during the peak summer season.
To review preparedness and ensure an uninterrupted water supply, the district administration convened a high-level meeting with officials from various departments. Authorities have directed departments to conduct water resource mapping in key tourist destinations, including Dharamshala, Palampur, and Baijnath, where visitor numbers rise significantly during the summer months.
ADM Kangra, Shilpi Bekta, said the district is witnessing a steady increase in temperatures, making preventive planning crucial. She stated that departments have been instructed to closely monitor water resources and respond immediately in the event of drought-like conditions.
The administration expressed concern about recurring water shortages in lower areas, including Fatehpur, Nurpur, Jawali, Indora, Jawalamukhi, and Dehra. Residents in some of these regions reportedly receive water supply only once a week during peak summer periods, causing severe inconvenience.
Officials said special instructions have been issued to the Jal Shakti Department to prevent disruption in the drinking water supply, particularly in the Jawali subdivision, which has faced repeated complaints of water scarcity in previous years.
The district administration has also asked concerned departments to remain on alert and coordinate effectively to ensure that both residents and tourists do not face hardship amid the intensifying heatwave conditions across Kangra district.
