Kangra, May 14
Former Union Minister Anurag Thakur on Thursday said Prime Minister Narendra Modi has given a clear message to public representatives and citizens to reduce unnecessary travel and fuel consumption wherever possible amid global economic challenges.
Speaking to reporters during his visit to Kangra district, Thakur said the Prime Minister’s appeal applies to everyone, including chief ministers, ministers, and ordinary citizens. He said reducing dependence on imported fuel, energy resources, and fertilizers would help lower foreign-exchange expenditure and reduce India’s reliance on other countries.
Thakur said several state leaders and ministers have already adopted the initiative by using motorcycles, auto rickshaws, e-rickshaws, and metro services for official travel. He added that work from home and other energy-saving measures are also being encouraged.
Commenting on the NEET paper leak case, Thakur said the matter is currently under investigation by the Central Bureau of Investigation.
Reacting to Congress leader Rahul Gandhi questioning the extension granted to the CBI Director, Thakur said Rahul Gandhi was “busy deciding the Chief Minister of Kerala,” adding that posters had reportedly appeared there against both Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra.
Referring to the upcoming municipal corporation elections, Thakur said the BJP has fielded young candidates and claimed the public now has an opportunity to respond to the Congress over what he described as unfulfilled promises. He appealed to voters to support BJP candidates and help form a BJP-led municipal corporation.
