The Martyrs’ Memorial in Dharamshala is set to receive a major visual upgrade with the installation of ship and submarine models to enhance its appeal to visitors.

Officials said the project, which has been underway for the past two years, has reached a key stage, with both models now in Dharamshala and installation work underway. The work is being executed by the 105 Engineer Regiment of the 9 Corps based in Yol, with operations ongoing since April 23.

The installation is part of a broader effort to develop the memorial as a tourist attraction. The ship and submarine models are scheduled to be inaugurated on May 11, and the event is expected to be attended by the Vice Admiral of the Indian Navy and the Commander of the 9 Corps.

According to the details, the ship model stands 7 feet tall, while the submarine is 8 feet tall, and each weighs approximately 2 tonnes. Officials said both models will be placed so they appear to float in water, for which a dedicated water arrangement is being developed at the site.

Subedar Major Honorary Captain P C Thakur, Vice President (Human Resources, Projects and Maintenance) of the Martyrs’ Memorial Development Committee, Dharamshala, said efforts to bring the models to the site had been ongoing for the last two years. He added that the installation is being carried out with the support of personnel from the 105 Engineer Regiment.

He further said that once completed, the installation is expected to significantly enhance the memorial’s visual appeal and make it a major tourist attraction in the region.
